Ingredients

  • Beef brisket - 500 grams
  • Soy sauce - 60 ml
  • Dark soy sauce - 30 ml
  • Water - 500 ml
  • Brown sugar - 15 grams
  • Ginger, sliced - 10 grams
  • Garlic, minced - 4 cloves
  • Star anise - 2 pieces
  • Cinnamon stick - 1 piece
  • Green onions, chopped - 2 stalks
  • Sesame oil - 15 ml
  • Salt - 5 grams
  • Black pepper - 2 grams

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F).
  2. In a large oven-safe pot, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sliced ginger, sautéing until aromatic.
  3. Add the beef brisket to the pot, browning it on all sides for about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Pour in the soy sauce, dark soy sauce, and water, stirring to combine.
  5. Add brown sugar, star anise, cinnamon stick, salt, and black pepper to the pot, mixing well.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then cover the pot and transfer it to the preheated oven.
  7. Braise in the oven for 2-2.5 hours, or until the brisket is fork-tender.
  8. Once done, remove the pot from the oven, and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
  9. Serve the brisket with chopped green onions on top.
