Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Black bean sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Fresh ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Red bell pepper - 1 medium, sliced
  • Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Lime - 1, juiced
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1 cm thick slices.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the black bean sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and lime juice to create a marinade.
  3. Place the tofu slices in the marinade and let them soak for at least 10 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure even coverage.
  4. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat and brush it lightly with vegetable oil.
  5. Remove the tofu from the marinade and place it on the grill. Grill each side for about 4-5 minutes until grill marks appear and the tofu is heated through.
  6. During the last few minutes of grilling, add the sliced red bell pepper to the grill to char slightly.
  7. Once cooked, remove the tofu and bell peppers from the grill and sprinkle with chopped green onions and cilantro.
  8. Serve the grilled tofu with the charred red bell peppers on the side, drizzled with any remaining marinade if desired.
