Ingredients

  • Lamb shoulder - 300 grams, cut into 2 cm cubes
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Hoisin sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Rice wine - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 inch, grated
  • Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Honey - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Green onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)
  • Skewers - 4 (soaked in water if wooden)

Steps

  1. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice wine, minced garlic, grated ginger, five-spice powder, ground black pepper, honey, and sesame oil to create a marinade.
  2. Add the lamb cubes to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for deeper flavor.
  3. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Thread the marinated lamb onto the skewers, leaving a little space between each piece for even cooking.
  5. Grill the skewers for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the lamb is cooked to your desired doneness and has a nice char.
  6. Remove from the grill and let rest for a couple of minutes before serving.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving. Enjoy your Beijing Grilled Lamb!
