Ingredients

  • Ground beef - 250 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Flatbread (or pita) - 2 pieces
  • Cilantro - a handful, chopped (for garnish)

Steps

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, add sesame oil and sauté the chopped onion until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and ginger to the skillet, cooking for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef, breaking it up and cooking until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the soy sauce, cumin, coriander, black pepper, and salt, mixing well to incorporate the spices into the beef.
  5. Pour in the water, reduce the heat to low, and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  6. While the beef is simmering, heat the flatbreads in a separate skillet or on a griddle until lightly toasted on both sides.
  7. Once the beef mixture is ready, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool slightly.
  8. To assemble, spoon the beef mixture onto the flatbread, sprinkle with chopped cilantro, and fold it over to serve.
