Ingredients
- Beef (flank steak) - 300 grams
- Soy sauce - 60 ml
- Honey - 30 grams
- Rice vinegar - 15 ml
- Five-spice powder - 5 grams
- Garlic powder - 5 grams
- Black pepper - 2 grams
- Sesame oil - 10 ml
- Red chili flakes - 2 grams (optional)
Steps
- Slice the beef flank steak into thin strips, about 0.5 cm thick, against the grain for tenderness.
- In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, five-spice powder, garlic powder, black pepper, sesame oil, and red chili flakes (if using).
- Add the sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat your oven to 70°C (160°F) or set up a dehydrator according to manufacturer's instructions.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the marinated beef strips in a single layer, making sure they do not overlap.
- Place the baking sheet in the oven or dehydrator and dry the beef for about 4-6 hours, or until it is dry and chewy, flipping the strips halfway through if using an oven.
- Once dried to your liking, remove the beef jerky from the oven/dehydrator and let it cool completely before storing.
- Store the beef jerky in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
