Ingredients

  • Beef brisket - 300 grams
  • Water - 1 liter
  • Ginger - 15 grams, sliced
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Soy sauce - 30 ml
  • Star anise - 2 pieces
  • Cinnamon stick - 1 piece
  • Daikon radish - 100 grams, sliced
  • Carrot - 100 grams, sliced
  • Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Fresh cilantro - for garnish

Steps

  1. In a large pot, combine the water, beef brisket, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 90 minutes, or until the brisket is tender.
  3. Remove the brisket from the pot and let it cool slightly. Shred the brisket into bite-sized pieces, discarding any excess fat.
  4. Add the sliced daikon radish and carrot to the pot, and continue to simmer for an additional 15 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
  5. Return the shredded brisket to the pot, and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir well and let it heat through for about 5 minutes.
  6. Ladle the soup into bowls and garnish with chopped green onions and fresh cilantro before serving.
