Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 250 grams
- Active dry yeast - 5 grams
- Sugar - 15 grams
- Warm water - 150 milliliters
- Salt - 5 grams
- Ground beef (Halal) - 200 grams
- Soy sauce - 15 milliliters
- Sesame oil - 5 milliliters
- Ginger (grated) - 5 grams
- Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
- Spring onions (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- Pepper - 1 gram
- Vegetable oil - for greasing
Steps
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
- In a larger bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, and knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- While the dough rises, prepare the filling by mixing the ground beef, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, spring onions, and pepper in a bowl. Set aside.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle about 10 cm in diameter.
- Place 1 tablespoon of the beef filling in the center of each dough circle. Gather the edges and pinch them together to seal the baozi.
- Place the filled baozi on a greased steamer basket lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 15 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). After the baozi have risen, bake them in the oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
