Ingredients

  • Halal beef sirloin - 200 grams, thinly sliced
  • Fresh spinach - 150 grams, washed and roughly chopped
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Oyster sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Chicken or vegetable broth - 500 ml
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon, mixed with 2 tablespoons of water
  • Red chili flakes - 1 teaspoon (optional)
  • Spring onions - 2, chopped for garnish

Steps

  1. In a large pot, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger, sautéing until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  2. Add the sliced beef to the pot, cooking until browned and just cooked through, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the beef from the pot and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the chopped spinach and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until wilted.
  4. Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth, soy sauce, and oyster sauce, stirring to combine. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Return the cooked beef to the pot, add the cornstarch mixture, and stir until the soup thickens slightly, about 2 minutes.
  6. If using, sprinkle in red chili flakes for some heat. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with chopped spring onions.
