- cold unsalted butter - 100 grams, cubed
- ice water - 50 ml
- beef sirloin - 150 grams, thinly sliced
- broccoli florets - 100 grams, blanched
- soy sauce - 30 ml (ensure it's Kosher)
- oyster sauce - 15 ml (ensure it's Kosher)
- garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- scallions - 2, chopped
- egg - 1, beaten (for egg wash)
- salt - to taste
- black pepper - to taste
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and cold cubed butter. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add ice water gradually, mixing until the dough comes together. Form the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- In a skillet over medium heat, add sesame oil. Sauté minced garlic and grated ginger until fragrant.
- Add the sliced beef, soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the blanched broccoli and chopped scallions, cooking for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
- Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to fit your pie dish. Place half the dough into the dish, pressing it into the corners.
- Fill the pie crust with the beef and broccoli mixture, then cover with the remaining rolled-out dough. Seal the edges and cut a few slits in the top for steam to escape.
- Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
