  • all-purpose flour - 200 grams
  • cold unsalted butter - 100 grams, cubed
  • ice water - 50 ml
  • beef sirloin - 150 grams, thinly sliced
  • broccoli florets - 100 grams, blanched
  • soy sauce - 30 ml (ensure it's Kosher)
  • oyster sauce - 15 ml (ensure it's Kosher)
  • garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • scallions - 2, chopped
  • egg - 1, beaten (for egg wash)
  • salt - to taste
  • black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and cold cubed butter. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add ice water gradually, mixing until the dough comes together. Form the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. In a skillet over medium heat, add sesame oil. Sauté minced garlic and grated ginger until fragrant.
  5. Add the sliced beef, soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Stir in the blanched broccoli and chopped scallions, cooking for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  7. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to fit your pie dish. Place half the dough into the dish, pressing it into the corners.
  8. Fill the pie crust with the beef and broccoli mixture, then cover with the remaining rolled-out dough. Seal the edges and cut a few slits in the top for steam to escape.
  9. Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
