Ingredients

  • Pork belly - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Hoisin sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Lettuce leaves - 4 large (butter or romaine)
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Cilantro - a handful, for garnish

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and five-spice powder to create a marinade.
  3. Cut the pork belly into small strips and coat them thoroughly with the marinade. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or longer if possible for more flavor.
  4. Place the marinated pork belly on a baking tray lined with aluminum foil and roast in the oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the pork is crispy on the outside and tender inside.
  5. While the pork is cooking, prepare the lettuce leaves by washing them and patting them dry.
  6. Once the pork is done, let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it into bite-sized pieces.
  7. To assemble, place a few pieces of pork belly in each lettuce leaf, drizzle with sesame oil, and top with chopped green onions and cilantro.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy your low-carb BBQ pork belly buns!
