Ingredients

  • Pork belly - 400 grams
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Hoisin sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Chinese five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Green onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Cut the pork belly into strips, about 2.5 cm wide.
  2. In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, five-spice powder, and sesame oil to create the marinade.
  3. Place the pork belly strips in a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Ensure the pork is well coated. Seal or cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
  4. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking tray with aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
  5. Arrange the marinated pork belly strips on the prepared baking tray, reserving the marinade.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, then turn the strips over and brush with some of the reserved marinade. Bake for another 15-20 minutes or until the pork is caramelized and cooked through.
  7. Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
  8. Serve the BBQ pork belly garnished with chopped green onions.
