Ingredients

  • Chicken thighs - 4 pieces (about 600g)
  • Soy sauce - 60ml
  • Honey - 30g
  • Chinese five-spice powder - 5g
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Sesame oil - 15ml
  • Rice vinegar - 15ml
  • Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)

Steps

  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, Chinese five-spice powder, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, and rice vinegar to create the marinade.
  2. Place the chicken thighs in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Ensure the chicken is well coated, seal the bag or cover the dish, and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.
  3. Preheat your grill or a grill pan over medium-high heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade and discard the marinade.
  4. Grill the chicken thighs for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 75°C (165°F) and have nice grill marks.
  5. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes. Slice if desired.
  6. Serve the BBQ chicken thighs garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
