Ingredients

  • Taro root - 250 grams
  • All-purpose flour - 100 grams
  • Warm water - 60 ml
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Green onions - 2 tablespoons, finely chopped
  • Mushrooms (shiitake or button) - 50 grams, finely chopped
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Peel and cube the taro root, then steam it for about 15 minutes until tender.
  3. In a bowl, mash the steamed taro until smooth. Add chopped green onions, mushrooms, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, black pepper, and cornstarch. Mix well and let it cool.
  4. In another bowl, combine all-purpose flour, warm water, and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to form a dough. Knead for a couple of minutes until smooth.
  5. Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and roll each portion into a thin circle on a floured surface.
  6. Place a tablespoon of the taro filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges by pressing them together.
  7. Place the puffs on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with the remaining vegetable oil.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy your delicious Baked Taro Puffs!
