Ingredients

  • Sweet potatoes - 2 medium (about 400g)
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon (15ml)
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon (15ml)
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon (5g)
  • Ground ginger - 1/2 teaspoon (2g)
  • Chili flakes - 1/4 teaspoon (1g)
  • Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (9g)

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Wash and scrub the sweet potatoes, then pat them dry with a towel.
  3. Prick the sweet potatoes several times with a fork to allow steam to escape during baking.
  4. Place the sweet potatoes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 30-35 minutes or until tender when pierced with a fork.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic powder, ground ginger, and chili flakes to create a marinade.
  6. Once the sweet potatoes are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly.
  7. Cut the sweet potatoes in half lengthwise and brush the tops with the marinade.
  8. Sprinkle chopped green onions and sesame seeds over the sweet potatoes.
  9. Return the sweet potatoes to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes to allow the toppings to toast slightly.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy your delicious vegan Chinese snack!
