Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour - 200 grams
  • Warm water - 120 ml
  • Active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • Honey - 10 grams
  • Salt - 3 grams
  • Lean ground pork - 150 grams
  • Green onions - 30 grams, chopped
  • Carrot - 50 grams, grated
  • Garlic - 1 clove, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Soy sauce - 15 ml
  • Sesame oil - 5 ml
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and honey. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms, about 10 minutes.
  3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
  4. While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by mixing ground pork, chopped green onions, grated carrot, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper in a bowl.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a small circle (about 10 cm in diameter).
  6. Place a spoonful of the pork filling in the center of each circle. Gather the edges and pinch to seal tightly, forming a bun.
  7. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  8. Place the buns on the prepared baking sheet and let them rest for another 10 minutes.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
