Ingredients
- Whole wheat flour - 200 grams
- Warm water - 120 ml
- Active dry yeast - 5 grams
- Honey - 10 grams
- Salt - 3 grams
- Lean ground pork - 150 grams
- Green onions - 30 grams, chopped
- Carrot - 50 grams, grated
- Garlic - 1 clove, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Soy sauce - 15 ml
- Sesame oil - 5 ml
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
Steps
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and honey. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms, about 10 minutes.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by mixing ground pork, chopped green onions, grated carrot, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper in a bowl.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a small circle (about 10 cm in diameter).
- Place a spoonful of the pork filling in the center of each circle. Gather the edges and pinch to seal tightly, forming a bun.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place the buns on the prepared baking sheet and let them rest for another 10 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
