Ingredients
- Beef short ribs - 500 grams
- Soy sauce - 60 ml
- Hoisin sauce - 30 ml
- Brown sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Star anise - 2 pieces
- Water - 250 ml
- Green onions - 2, chopped for garnish
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon for garnish
Steps
- Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F).
- In a large bowl, mix together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, minced ginger, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and water to create the marinade.
- Add the beef short ribs to the marinade, ensuring they are well-coated. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- In a large oven-proof dish, place the marinated short ribs and pour the remaining marinade over them. Add the star anise on top.
- Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 2 hours, until the ribs are tender.
- After 2 hours, remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes to caramelize the sauce, basting the ribs with the sauce halfway through.
- Once done, remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
