Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour - 200 grams
  • cold water - 100 ml
  • salt - 1 teaspoon
  • olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • ground beef - 150 grams
  • onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • green bell pepper - 1/2, finely chopped
  • tomato paste - 1 tablespoon
  • black olives - 50 grams, pitted and chopped
  • parsley - 1 tablespoon, chopped
  • cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
  • black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • oil for frying - enough for deep frying

Steps

  1. In a bowl, mix the flour, salt, and olive oil. Gradually add cold water and knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, add a tablespoon of oil. Sauté the onion and garlic until soft, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the green bell pepper, tomato paste, black olives, parsley, cumin, and black pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.
  5. Roll out the rested dough on a floured surface to about 2 mm thick. Cut into circles of about 10 cm in diameter.
  6. Place a tablespoon of the beef filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold over to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges by pressing with a fork.
  7. In a deep pan, heat oil to 180°C (350°F). Fry the salgadinhos in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes each side. Drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy your delicious kosher Salgadinho!
