Ingredients
- Bulgur wheat - 100 grams
- Lean ground beef - 200 grams
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Water - 200 ml
- Pine nuts - 30 grams (optional)
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a saucepan, combine bulgur wheat and water, bring to a boil, then cover and let it sit for 15 minutes until the water is absorbed. Fluff with a fork and let it cool.
- In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until translucent.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked bulgur, sautéed onion and garlic, ground beef, parsley, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Grease a baking dish with the remaining olive oil. Spread half of the bulgur and meat mixture evenly in the dish. If using, sprinkle pine nuts on top.
- Layer the remaining mixture over the first layer and press down lightly to compact. Drizzle lemon juice on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, then cut into squares and serve warm.
