Ingredients

  • Whole milk - 200 ml
  • Sweetened condensed milk - 100 g
  • Cocoa powder - 30 g
  • Cornstarch - 15 g
  • Sugar - 50 g
  • Eggs - 1 large
  • Vanilla extract - 1 tsp
  • Butter - 10 g (for greasing)
  • Granulated sugar - 40 g (for caramel)

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a small saucepan, melt 40 g of granulated sugar over medium heat until it turns golden brown to make the caramel. Quickly pour the caramel into a round mold, tilting it to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to harden.
  3. In another saucepan, combine the whole milk, sweetened condensed milk, cocoa powder, and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar and cocoa powder are dissolved.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together the egg and cornstarch until smooth. Gradually add the warm chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, whisking continuously to prevent curdling.
  5. Pour the chocolate mixture back into the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly until it thickens (about 5-7 minutes). Add the vanilla extract and remove from heat.
  6. Pour the thickened chocolate mixture into the prepared caramel-coated mold.
  7. Cover the mold with aluminum foil and place it in a larger baking dish. Fill the baking dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the mold to create a water bath.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 40 minutes, or until set.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool to room temperature. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until completely chilled.
  10. To serve, carefully invert the pudim onto a plate, allowing the caramel to flow over the top.
