Ingredients

  • Pizza dough - 250 grams
  • Onions - 2 medium (about 300 grams)
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons (30 ml)
  • Balsamic vinegar - 1 tablespoon (15 ml)
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon (5 grams)
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon (2 grams)
  • Fresh basil leaves - 10 grams
  • Vegan cheese (optional) - 100 grams

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 220°C (428°F).
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and caramelized.
  3. Add balsamic vinegar to the onions, stirring well. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the vinegar has mostly evaporated. Remove from heat.
  4. Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness and shape. Transfer it to a baking sheet or pizza stone.
  5. Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the pizza dough. If using vegan cheese, sprinkle it over the onions.
  6. Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  7. Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before slicing and serving.
