Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • warm water - 150 ml
  • active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • sugar - 5 grams
  • salt - 5 grams
  • olive oil - 10 ml

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mix the flour and salt together.
  3. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour mixture along with the olive oil.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 220°C (428°F).
  7. Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a small baguette or oval roll.
  8. Place the shaped dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let it rest for another 20 minutes.
  9. Make shallow slashes on the top of each roll with a sharp knife and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
