Ingredients

  • Pasta (spaghetti or fusilli) - 150 grams
  • Broccoli florets - 200 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic cloves (minced) - 2
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Parmesan cheese (grated) - 30 grams
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Red pepper flakes - 1/4 teaspoon (optional)

Steps

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente.
  2. While the pasta is cooking, steam the broccoli florets in a separate pot for about 5-7 minutes until they are bright green and tender.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  4. Once the pasta is cooked, reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta water, then drain the pasta and add it to the skillet with the garlic oil.
  5. Add the steamed broccoli to the pasta in the skillet. Toss everything together, adding the reserved pasta water a bit at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
  6. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir in the lemon juice and grated Parmesan cheese until well combined.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with additional Parmesan and a drizzle of olive oil if desired.
