Ingredients

  • sorghum - 100 grams
  • water - 500 milliliters
  • carrot - 1 medium, grated
  • onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • coriander - 1 tablespoon, chopped
  • cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • whole wheat flour - 50 grams
  • avocado - 1, sliced
  • tomato - 1, sliced
  • lettuce - 2 leaves
  • whole grain burger buns - 2

Steps

  1. Rinse the sorghum under cold water and then boil it in 500 milliliters of water for about 30 minutes or until tender. Drain and set aside to cool.
  2. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the onion and garlic until translucent.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cooked sorghum, sautéed onion and garlic, grated carrot, chopped coriander, cumin, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Mix in the whole wheat flour until the mixture holds together. Form the mixture into two patties.
  5. Wipe the skillet clean and heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. To assemble, place each patty on a whole grain burger bun and top with sliced avocado, tomato, and lettuce. Serve immediately.
