- Onion - 1 small, thinly sliced
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
- Fresh basil - 5 leaves, chopped
- Parmesan cheese - 30 grams, grated (optional)
Steps
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.
- While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the sliced red and yellow bell peppers to the skillet. Season with salt and black pepper, and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the peppers are soft.
- Once the spaghetti is cooked, reserve 1/2 cup of the pasta water, then drain the spaghetti and add it to the skillet with the peppers.
- Toss everything together, adding reserved pasta water as needed to create a light sauce.
- Stir in the chopped basil and mix well.
- Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
