Ingredients

  • Fresh white fish fillet (such as tilapia or snapper) - 200 grams
  • Fresh lime juice - 60 ml
  • Fresh lemon juice - 30 ml
  • Red onion - 1 small, thinly sliced
  • Fresh cilantro - 15 grams, chopped
  • Tomato - 1 medium, diced
  • Cucumber - 1/2 medium, diced
  • Jalapeño - 1 small, finely chopped (optional for heat)
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Cut the fresh fish fillet into small cubes and place it in a glass or ceramic bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the lime juice and lemon juice together.
  3. Pour the citrus mixture over the fish, ensuring all pieces are well coated.
  4. Add the sliced red onion, chopped cilantro, diced tomato, diced cucumber, and jalapeño (if using) to the bowl with the fish.
  5. Season with salt and black pepper, then gently toss to combine all ingredients.
  6. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 20-30 minutes, allowing the fish to marinate and 'cook' in the citrus juices.
  7. Before serving, drizzle the olive oil over the ceviche and give it a final gentle toss.
  8. Serve chilled, garnished with extra cilantro if desired.
