Ingredients

  • Portobello mushrooms - 2 large
  • Ground beef - 250 grams
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Cheddar cheese - 50 grams, shredded
  • Avocado - 1 medium, sliced
  • Fresh arugula - 1 cup
  • Mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons
  • Lemon juice - 1 teaspoon

Steps

  1. Preheat your grill or skillet over medium heat.
  2. In a bowl, mix the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  3. Form the mixture into two patties, each about 1.5 cm thick.
  4. Brush the Portobello mushrooms with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Place the mushroom caps on the grill or skillet, gill side up, and cook for 5 minutes.
  6. After 5 minutes, flip the mushrooms and cook for another 5 minutes until tender.
  7. In the meantime, cook the beef patties on the grill or skillet for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness.
  8. During the last minute of cooking the patties, place the shredded cheddar cheese on top of each patty to melt.
  9. Remove the mushrooms and patties from the grill. Assemble the burger by placing a beef patty inside each mushroom cap.
  10. Top with sliced avocado, fresh arugula, and a drizzle of mayonnaise mixed with lemon juice before serving.
