Ingredients

  • Black beans - 200 grams (cooked and drained)
  • Cooked brown rice - 100 grams
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Carrot - 1 small, grated
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon (or to taste)
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • All-purpose flour - 50 grams
  • Olive oil - for frying

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, mash the cooked black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth.
  2. Add cooked brown rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, grated carrot, chopped cilantro, smoked paprika, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper to the mashed beans.
  3. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
  4. Gradually add all-purpose flour to the mixture, stirring until it forms a dough-like consistency.
  5. Shape the mixture into small balls, about the size of a golf ball.
  6. Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  7. Fry the balls in batches, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  8. Remove from oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. Serve warm with a dipping sauce of your choice.
