- Basmati rice - 1 cup
- Water - 2 cups
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Za'atar spice blend - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Fresh parsley - 1/4 cup, chopped
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic to the saucepan and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the za'atar spice blend and salt, cooking for an additional minute to toast the spices.
- Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan, stirring to coat the rice in the spice mixture.
- Pour in 2 cups of water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice is tender and water is absorbed.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork.
- Stir in the chopped parsley and lemon juice before serving.
