Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 400 grams
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Lime juice - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
- Allspice - 1 teaspoon
- Thyme - 1 teaspoon
- Scotch bonnet pepper (or habanero) - 1 small, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Green onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)
Steps
- Press the tofu for at least 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into slices or cubes.
- In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, soy sauce, lime juice, garlic powder, onion powder, allspice, thyme, minced Scotch bonnet pepper, grated ginger, brown sugar, salt, and black pepper to create the jerk marinade.
- Place the tofu in the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well-coated. Let it marinate for at least 10 minutes (or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator for more flavor).
- Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add a little olive oil if necessary.
- Once hot, add the marinated tofu and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the tofu from the skillet and let it rest for a minute before serving.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and serve with rice or a fresh salad.
