  • cocoa powder - 20 grams
  • brown sugar - 50 grams
  • maple syrup - 30 ml
  • unsweetened applesauce - 30 grams
  • coconut oil - 20 grams, melted
  • vanilla extract - 5 ml
  • baking powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • salt - a pinch
  • walnuts - 20 grams, chopped (optional)

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a small baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the melted coconut oil, maple syrup, applesauce, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. If desired, fold in the chopped walnuts for added texture.
  6. Spread the brownie batter evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean.
