Ingredients

  • Canned navy beans - 400 grams
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Onion, finely chopped - 1 medium (150 grams)
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Ketchup - 3 tablespoons
  • Maple syrup - 2 tablespoons
  • Apple cider vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Mustard powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Water - 100 milliliters

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a medium-sized oven-safe pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Add the canned navy beans (drained and rinsed), ketchup, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, mustard powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and water.
  6. Mix everything well and bring to a simmer.
  7. Cover the pot and transfer it to the preheated oven.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes, stirring halfway through, until the sauce thickens and the flavors meld.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
