Ingredients

  • Whole milk - 500 ml
  • Granulated sugar - 50 g
  • Cornstarch - 30 g
  • Salt - 1/4 tsp
  • Egg yolks - 2 large
  • Unsalted butter - 15 g
  • Vanilla extract - 1 tsp

Steps

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Whisk together until smooth.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture starts to thicken and bubble.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Slowly add a few spoonfuls of the hot milk mixture to the egg yolks to temper them, whisking continuously.
  4. Gradually add the tempered egg yolks back into the saucepan, stirring constantly. Continue to cook for 2-3 more minutes until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the unsalted butter and vanilla extract until smooth.
  6. Pour the pudding into two serving dishes and cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming.
  7. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
