- Whole milk - 500 ml
- Granulated sugar - 50 g
- Cornstarch - 30 g
- Salt - 1/4 tsp
- Egg yolks - 2 large
- Unsalted butter - 15 g
- Vanilla extract - 1 tsp
Steps
- In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Whisk together until smooth.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture starts to thicken and bubble.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Slowly add a few spoonfuls of the hot milk mixture to the egg yolks to temper them, whisking continuously.
- Gradually add the tempered egg yolks back into the saucepan, stirring constantly. Continue to cook for 2-3 more minutes until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in the unsalted butter and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the pudding into two serving dishes and cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
