Ingredients

  • Beef short ribs - 1 kg
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Smoked paprika - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Onion powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Cayenne pepper - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
  • Apple cider vinegar - 2 tablespoons
  • BBQ sauce (halal) - 100 ml
  • Water - 500 ml

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 150°C (300°F).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper to create a dry rub.
  3. Pat the beef short ribs dry with paper towels and rub the olive oil all over the ribs, followed by the spice mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated.
  4. Place the ribs in a large baking dish and add the apple cider vinegar and water to the bottom of the dish to create steam during cooking.
  5. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for 3 hours until the ribs are tender.
  6. Remove the foil and brush the BBQ sauce over the ribs. Increase the oven temperature to 220°C (425°F) and return the ribs to the oven for an additional 30 minutes, basting occasionally with more BBQ sauce.
  7. Once the ribs are caramelized and slightly charred, remove them from the oven and let them rest for 10 minutes before serving.
