- lean ground beef - 250 grams
- whole wheat burger buns - 2
- smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
- garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- onion powder - 1 teaspoon
- salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- BBQ sauce (low-sugar) - 4 tablespoons
- sliced tomato - 1 medium
- leafy romaine lettuce - 2 leaves
- sliced red onion - 1/2 small
- avocado - 1/2 medium
- olive oil - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- In a bowl, combine the lean ground beef, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until evenly combined.
- Form the beef mixture into two equal patties, about 1.5 cm thick.
- Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat and lightly brush it with olive oil.
- Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 70°C (160°F).
- During the last minute of cooking, brush each patty with 2 tablespoons of BBQ sauce and let it caramelize.
- While the patties are cooking, slice the avocado, tomato, and red onion.
- To assemble the burgers, place the bottom half of the whole wheat buns on plates, followed by a lettuce leaf, a BBQ patty, sliced tomato, red onion, and avocado.
- Finish with the top half of the buns and serve immediately with extra BBQ sauce on the side.
