Ingredients

  • lean ground beef - 250 grams
  • whole wheat burger buns - 2
  • smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • onion powder - 1 teaspoon
  • salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • BBQ sauce (low-sugar) - 4 tablespoons
  • sliced tomato - 1 medium
  • leafy romaine lettuce - 2 leaves
  • sliced red onion - 1/2 small
  • avocado - 1/2 medium
  • olive oil - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine the lean ground beef, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until evenly combined.
  2. Form the beef mixture into two equal patties, about 1.5 cm thick.
  3. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat and lightly brush it with olive oil.
  4. Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 70°C (160°F).
  5. During the last minute of cooking, brush each patty with 2 tablespoons of BBQ sauce and let it caramelize.
  6. While the patties are cooking, slice the avocado, tomato, and red onion.
  7. To assemble the burgers, place the bottom half of the whole wheat buns on plates, followed by a lettuce leaf, a BBQ patty, sliced tomato, red onion, and avocado.
  8. Finish with the top half of the buns and serve immediately with extra BBQ sauce on the side.
