Ingredients

  • Salmon fillets - 2 pieces (150g each)
  • Soy sauce (kosher) - 60ml
  • Brown sugar - 2 tablespoons (30g)
  • Mirin - 2 tablespoons (30ml)
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon (15ml)
  • Garlic, minced - 1 clove
  • Ginger, grated - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Green onions, chopped - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil to create the teriyaki marinade.
  2. Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish and pour half of the teriyaki marinade over them, reserving the other half for glazing. Marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.
  4. Remove the salmon from the marinade and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Place the salmon fillets skin-side down on the grill. Cook for about 4-5 minutes.
  6. Carefully flip the salmon and brush the top with the reserved teriyaki marinade. Grill for an additional 4-5 minutes or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  7. Remove the salmon from the grill and let it rest for a couple of minutes.
  8. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
