Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • granulated sugar - 50 grams
  • instant yeast - 7 grams
  • milk (warm) - 120 ml
  • large egg - 1
  • unsalted butter (melted) - 30 grams
  • vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • jelly (your choice) - 100 grams
  • vegetable oil (for frying) - 500 ml
  • powdered sugar (for dusting) - to taste

Steps

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, instant yeast, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together warm milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1 cm thickness on a floured surface.
  7. Using a round cutter (about 6 cm in diameter), cut out circles of dough and place them on a floured baking sheet. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. In a deep pot, heat vegetable oil to 180°C (350°F). Carefully drop in the dough circles, a few at a time, and fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  9. Remove the donuts with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  10. Once cooled slightly, use a piping bag to fill each donut with jelly.
  11. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
