Ingredients
- all-purpose flour - 250 grams
- granulated sugar - 50 grams
- active dry yeast - 7 grams
- warm milk - 120 ml
- egg - 1 large
- unsalted butter - 30 grams, melted
- vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- jelly or jam (your choice) - 100 grams
- vegetable oil (for frying) - 500 ml
- powdered sugar (for dusting) - to taste
Steps
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, the egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Mix until a dough forms, then knead for about 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1.5 cm thick on a floured surface.
- Cut out circles using a round cutter and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pot to 180°C (350°F). Carefully add the donuts, frying in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the donuts and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- Once cooled slightly, use a piping bag to fill each donut with jelly or jam through a small hole on the side.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
