Ingredients
- all-purpose flour - 250 grams
- granulated sugar - 50 grams
- active dry yeast - 7 grams
- whole milk - 120 ml
- unsalted butter - 30 grams, melted
- large egg - 1
- vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- vegetable oil - for frying
- jelly or jam (your choice) - 100 grams
- powdered sugar - for dusting
Steps
- In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Add the melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick on a floured surface.
- Cut out circles using a cookie cutter or glass (about 7-8 cm in diameter) and place them on a floured baking sheet. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- In a deep pot, heat vegetable oil to 180°C (350°F). Fry the doughnuts in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain on paper towels. While warm, inject or fill each doughnut with jelly or jam using a piping bag.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
