- Firm tofu - 400 grams
- Nori sheets - 2 sheets, crushed
- Cornstarch - 50 grams
- All-purpose flour - 50 grams
- Rice flour - 30 grams
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
- Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Cayenne pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Plant-based milk - 150 ml
- Vegetable oil - for frying
- Lemon wedges - for serving
- Vegan tartar sauce - for serving
Steps
- Press the tofu for 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into fish-like fillets.
- In a bowl, combine crushed nori, cornstarch, all-purpose flour, rice flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt to create the coating mixture.
- In another bowl, pour in the plant-based milk.
- Dip each tofu fillet into the plant-based milk, then coat it thoroughly with the dry mixture.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat, enough to cover the bottom of the pan.
- Fry the coated tofu fillets for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Once done, transfer the fried tofu to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
