Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 400 grams
  • Nori sheets - 2 sheets, crushed
  • Cornstarch - 50 grams
  • All-purpose flour - 50 grams
  • Rice flour - 30 grams
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Cayenne pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Plant-based milk - 150 ml
  • Vegetable oil - for frying
  • Lemon wedges - for serving
  • Vegan tartar sauce - for serving

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into fish-like fillets.
  2. In a bowl, combine crushed nori, cornstarch, all-purpose flour, rice flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt to create the coating mixture.
  3. In another bowl, pour in the plant-based milk.
  4. Dip each tofu fillet into the plant-based milk, then coat it thoroughly with the dry mixture.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat, enough to cover the bottom of the pan.
  6. Fry the coated tofu fillets for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Once done, transfer the fried tofu to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve the Spicy Vegan Fish Fry with lemon wedges and vegan tartar sauce.
