Ingredients

  • Green lentils - 150 grams
  • Water - 500 milliliters
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Red onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Carrot - 1 medium, grated
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Breadcrumbs - 50 grams
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Burger buns - 2
  • Vegan BBQ sauce - 4 tablespoons
  • Lettuce leaves - 2

Steps

  1. Rinse the lentils under cold water and drain them.
  2. In a pot, combine the lentils and water, bringing it to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes until tender. Drain any excess water and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped red onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until translucent.
  4. Add the minced garlic and grated carrot, cooking for another 2-3 minutes until softened.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the cooked lentils, sautéed onion mixture, cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, pepper, breadcrumbs, and chopped parsley. Mix well until fully combined.
  6. Form the mixture into two patties, pressing firmly to hold together.
  7. In the same skillet, add a little more olive oil and heat over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and heated through.
  8. Toast the burger buns lightly in the skillet if desired.
  9. Assemble the sliders by placing a lentil patty on each bun, topping with vegan BBQ sauce and lettuce leaves. Serve immediately.
