Ingredients
- Tempeh - 200 grams
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
- Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Cayenne pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- BBQ sauce - 1/2 cup
- Apple cider vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Slice the tempeh into thin strips or cubes, depending on your preference.
- In a bowl, mix together olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper to create a marinade.
- Add the tempeh to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well-coated. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- While the tempeh is marinating, prepare the BBQ sauce by combining the BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, and maple syrup in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until heated through and well combined.
- Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat.
- If grilling, place the marinated tempeh on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, brushing with BBQ sauce during the last few minutes. If baking, place the tempeh on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20 minutes, flipping halfway and brushing with BBQ sauce.
- Once cooked, remove the tempeh from the grill or oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve the spicy BBQ tempeh with extra BBQ sauce on the side and your choice of sides.
