- Bratwurst sausages - 4 pieces (about 400g)
- Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Applewood chips (for smoking) - 1 cup
- Bun or roll - 2 pieces
- Mustard - 2 tablespoons
- Sauerkraut - 100g
Steps
- Soak the applewood chips in water for at least 30 minutes before starting the smoking process.
- Preheat the smoker or grill to 120°C (250°F).
- In a small bowl, mix the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
- Rub the spice mixture evenly over the bratwurst sausages.
- Once the smoker is ready, place the soaked applewood chips in the smoker box or directly on the coals.
- Place the bratwurst on the grill grates and close the lid. Smoke for about 30-35 minutes or until they reach an internal temperature of 70°C (160°F).
- While the bratwurst is smoking, prepare the buns by toasting them lightly on the grill for about 2-3 minutes.
- Once the bratwurst are done, remove them from the smoker and let them rest for a few minutes.
- Assemble the bratwurst in the toasted buns, and top with mustard and sauerkraut before serving.
