Ingredients

  • Bratwurst sausages - 4 pieces (about 400g)
  • Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Onion powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Applewood chips (for smoking) - 1 cup
  • Bun or roll - 2 pieces
  • Mustard - 2 tablespoons
  • Sauerkraut - 100g

Steps

  1. Soak the applewood chips in water for at least 30 minutes before starting the smoking process.
  2. Preheat the smoker or grill to 120°C (250°F).
  3. In a small bowl, mix the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
  4. Rub the spice mixture evenly over the bratwurst sausages.
  5. Once the smoker is ready, place the soaked applewood chips in the smoker box or directly on the coals.
  6. Place the bratwurst on the grill grates and close the lid. Smoke for about 30-35 minutes or until they reach an internal temperature of 70°C (160°F).
  7. While the bratwurst is smoking, prepare the buns by toasting them lightly on the grill for about 2-3 minutes.
  8. Once the bratwurst are done, remove them from the smoker and let them rest for a few minutes.
  9. Assemble the bratwurst in the toasted buns, and top with mustard and sauerkraut before serving.
