Ingredients

  • Beef (top round or flank steak) - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce (halal) - 60 ml
  • Worcestershire sauce - 30 ml
  • Honey - 15 grams
  • Smoked paprika - 5 grams
  • Garlic powder - 5 grams
  • Onion powder - 5 grams
  • Black pepper - 2 grams
  • Red pepper flakes - 2 grams
  • Salt - 5 grams

Steps

  1. Slice the beef against the grain into thin strips, about 0.5 cm thick.
  2. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, honey, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and salt to create a marinade.
  3. Add the beef strips to the marinade and mix well to ensure all pieces are coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight for best flavor.
  4. Preheat your smoker to 70°C (160°F). If using an oven, preheat it to the lowest setting.
  5. Remove the beef from the marinade and shake off excess liquid. Lay the strips out in a single layer on smoking racks or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Smoke the beef for about 4-6 hours, or until it is dry and chewy but not brittle. If using an oven, keep the door slightly ajar to allow moisture to escape, and check regularly.
  7. Once done, let the jerky cool completely before storing it in an airtight container.
