  • Salt - 5 grams
  • Unsalted butter - 50 grams, cold and cubed
  • Milk - 100 milliliters
  • Cheddar cheese - 50 grams, grated
  • Spinach - 50 grams, chopped
  • Red bell pepper - 50 grams, finely diced
  • Green onion - 2 stalks, finely chopped
  • Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese, chopped spinach, diced red bell pepper, green onion, and dried oregano until evenly distributed.
  5. Pour in the milk gradually, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.
  7. Pat the dough into a circle about 2.5 cm thick and cut it into wedges or use a round cutter to make individual scones.
  8. Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops lightly with milk for a golden finish.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the scones are golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
