Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 200 grams
  • Butter - 100 grams, cold and cubed
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Cold water - 60 ml
  • Ground beef - 150 grams
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Carrot - 1 small, diced
  • Peas - 50 grams, frozen
  • Cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Egg - 1, beaten (for egg wash)

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Gradually add the cold water, mixing until a dough forms. Shape into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until soft.
  4. Add the ground beef, cooking until browned. Stir in the diced carrot, peas, cumin, paprika, black pepper, and salt. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.
  5. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  6. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about 3mm thickness. Cut out circles large enough to fill with the meat mixture.
  7. Place a spoonful of the meat filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges with a fork.
  8. Place the pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
