Ingredients

- Active dry yeast - 7 grams
- Granulated sugar - 10 grams
- Warm water - 120 ml
- Whole milk - 60 ml
- Unsalted butter - 50 grams, softened
- Egg - 1 large
- Salt - 5 grams
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Fresh parsley - 15 grams, chopped
- Fresh dill - 15 grams, chopped
- Grated Parmesan cheese - 50 grams
- Olive oil - 10 ml
Steps
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, milk, softened butter, and egg.
- Mix the ingredients until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- In a small bowl, mix the minced garlic, chopped parsley, chopped dill, and grated Parmesan cheese together.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle (about 30x40 cm) on a floured surface.
- Spread the garlic herb mixture evenly over the dough, then drizzle with olive oil.
- Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the ends to seal.
- Twist the log gently to form a spiral, then place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover the pan with a cloth and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the babka for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.
