Ingredients

  • Wild rice - 100 grams
  • Chicken broth (or vegetable broth) - 500 ml
  • Fresh sage leaves - 10 grams, chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Onion - 1 small, diced
  • Celery - 1 stalk, diced
  • Carrot - 1 small, diced
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Rinse the wild rice under cold water to remove any debris and excess starch.
  2. In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat and sauté the diced onion, celery, and carrot until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic and chopped sage to the pan, cooking for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the wild rice and cook for 1-2 minutes, allowing the rice to absorb the flavors.
  5. Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth, and season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30-35 minutes, or until the wild rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
  7. Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
  8. Serve warm as a side dish or light main course, garnished with additional sage if desired.
