Ingredients

  • Russet potatoes - 2 medium (approximately 400g)
  • Yellow onion - 1 small (approximately 100g)
  • All-purpose flour - 3 tablespoons (30g)
  • Egg - 1 large
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - for frying (approximately 1/2 cup or 120ml)

Steps

  1. Peel and grate the potatoes using a box grater or food processor. Place the grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out excess moisture.
  2. Grate the onion and mix it with the grated potatoes in a large bowl.
  3. Add the flour, egg, salt, and pepper to the potato and onion mixture, and stir until well combined.
  4. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until hot.
  5. Scoop about 2 tablespoons of the potato mixture and flatten it into a pancake shape. Carefully place it in the hot oil.
  6. Fry the pancakes for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Repeat with the remaining mixture, adding more oil as needed.
  7. Drain the cooked pancakes on paper towels and serve hot with applesauce or sour cream.
