  • Chicken broth - 500 milliliters
  • Hominy - 240 grams, drained and rinsed
  • Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Lime - 1, juiced
  • Fresh cilantro - for garnish
  • Radishes - 4, thinly sliced, for garnish
  • Avocado - 1, diced, for garnish

Steps

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Increase the heat to medium-high and add the cubed pork shoulder. Sear the pork on all sides until browned, approximately 5-7 minutes.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth, and add the drained hominy, oregano, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 30 minutes, or until the pork is tender.
  6. Stir in the lime juice and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  7. Ladle the pozole into bowls and garnish with fresh cilantro, sliced radishes, and diced avocado before serving.
