Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 200 grams
  • Active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • Warm water - 120 ml
  • Sugar - 10 grams
  • Salt - 5 grams
  • Olive oil - 15 ml
  • Poppy seeds - 20 grams
  • Egg - 1 large

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a dough begins to form, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).
  6. After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a roll and place them on a lined baking sheet.
  7. Brush the tops of the rolls with beaten egg and sprinkle generously with poppy seeds.
  8. Let the rolls rest for another 10-15 minutes, then bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
